"The Governor's Pleasure" Episode |
The show is back and what a brilliant written first episode it was. The tension with the inmates and Governor Ferguson won't cool off anytime soon. Ferguson controls the prison, Bea controls the prisoner, either one leaves, backs down or end up in a body bag.
The episode takes us forward to four month later, with Bea's sentencing for the murder of Brayden Holt who she killed in season 2 finale. Though she has public support, it didn't change the judge's decision to sentence to life without parole. Even with her predicament she wasn't remorseful and who can blame her? After the death of her daughter, Debbie, she doesn't have anything to look forward to on the outside.
Meanwhile the board of director of Wentworth prison aren't happy with the situation in prison, especially since Bea's escape. The board gives Ferguson ones last chance and if she fails, she's out. With one of the board members, Derek, as a Alibi (who she's threatens to expose his brothel business if he doesn't yield) , she'll be one step ahead.
The board is the least of Freguson's problem now that Bea is back in Wentworth, she pose a threat to her reign as governor, now that she's Top Dog. Bea goes through strip search with Ferguson present, making all sort of threats to her. The guards or as the prisoners call them, ;'screws' takes Bea back to the compound. Apparently while Bea was away on trial, Ferguson punished the prisoner by taking away all their privileges including TV and radio so the inmates have no idea what's going on outside.
A lot of things happened during those four months. Will Jackson was suspended since Bea's escape under his watch. Liz is back in Wentworth after been Bea's accomplice, Franky is been Franky as usual, she has resumed her drug operation since she's now in charge of Kitchen.
As if that's not enough, Ferguson orders the guards to confiscate their cigarettes. Bea retaliates when she rounds up the smokers outsides and tells Ferguson no one will go back to work until they finish smoking all their cigarettes. It's now Ferguson's turn, unfortunately for Liz, Ferguson removes her from protection and puts her in the compound. Bea challenges this decision and she's sent to solitary, before she's dragged away, she instructs Maxine to protect Liz but Ferguson wasn't done, she sends Maxine to the clinic leaving Liz vulnerable.
Boomer goes to her cell and attacks her for snitching on her about the drugs that led to extra seven years on her sentence. Bea who is still in solitary manages to send a message to Maxine through her food tray, instructing her to begin what they have planned.
Maxine gathers the girls with their mattresses on their hands and takes them to the exercise ground and sets them on fire. The prison is now on lockdown. While Vera is trying to secure the floors, she gets captured by some masked inmates. They demand that Ferguson open the door that leads to the solitary unit. She resisted at first but Derek orders the guards to do as they say. The inmates release Bea from solitary and locks up Vera in her place.
Will tells Ferguson that the inmates want to talk to her. She goes to the yard and sees Bea with the inmates. She reminds her that she owns the prison and warns her not make any decision regarding the inmates without involving her first. Bea walks away and the others return to their cells.
The final scene was amazing and breath taking, Bea standing her ground and didn't feel intimated by Ferguson. Ferguson who feeds off been in control won't just sit back and watch an inmate dictate to her what she or she cannot do in the prison.
Fletcher however is still in Rehab after the unfortunate car accident thanks to Ferguson. He tells Vera that he wants to see Will. I hope Will puts the hatred for him aside because that visit will definitely change things.
