Scandal Season 5 Episode 5 "You Got Served"

'You got Served' Episode

This is definitely one of my favourite episode this season and the man of the hour is no other than Cyrus Beene. Cyrus may have done a lot of horrible things but one thing that has earned him my respect his is loyalty to Fitz.

In 'You Got Served,' the senate begins an investigation into the Grant's administration. If found guilty, it's grounds for impeachment. David advises him to get a lawyer and recommends Patricia. He also strongly advises not to discuss the investigation with Olivia or he goes to jail.

Olivia calls Abby to get in touch with Leo Bergen (Paul Adelstein) to do damage control to her image. Leo plans to spins her image from home wrecker to a lovable character but she needs someone who can speak on her behalf and is loved by the citizen. She seeks out her ex- finance, Senator Edison Davis, (Norm Lewis).

Edison goes on TV and speaks good of her character, this strategy works as public begin to see the situation as two co-workers who fell in love.
Fitz brings Patricia on board. She tells Fitz to testify and also to hand over all the boxes of files to the judicial committee to show proof of their cooperation in the investigation.

The committee informs Mellie that she will not be involved in the investigation as it will look like a she has a vendetta against him. Olivia's image takes a toll when someone (Mellie) leaks to the press that Fitz gave Olivia a ring that has been in his family for years. Upset Leo sets up an interview to tell her side of the story, and spin it as a fairytale of two people in love.

Senator Gibson, a member of the committee, approaches Marcus and threatens to dig into his past and destroy him unless he cooperates by spying on Olivia. Huck and Quinn let Marcus in on their plan to plant evidence if Leo's plan doesn't work. Marcus agrees to spy on Olivia as a disguise to steal information from the committee on the investigation.

Olivia reveals at the interview that the ring belonged to his great grand-mother and he gave her as a gift. She also regrets meeting Fitz because the love they feel for each other is hurting those they care about.

"I've worked very hard to build a business. A business who's only aim is to help people become the best version of themselves.
It's a business that I'm proud of and could all go away because I laid eyes on that man."

Marcus tells Olivia the committee threatened him and gives her the information he stole. It turns out that they have a video tape of Olivia's kidnapping and Fitz's decision to go to war. She tells Fitz about it, Fitz claims he never saw the tape but Cyrus' testimony may contradict his statement.

Fitz invites Cyrus back into the White House and offers him a job as his special adviser. Cyrus figures it out that they have evidence against him and his statement will find him guilty. Cyrus instead makes a deal that he wants his job back as the Chief of Staff and he wants Elizabeth North fired.

Thoughts

This episode blew me away. We get to see Cyrus' sensitive side (I forgot he was still married and he has a baby). Fitz and Cyrus' reconciliation scene was deeply touching. They both care and know things about each other so it's better to keep your enemy close. Cyrus loves Fitz like a father loves his son and he been in the White House is a deep relief because honestly, he's loyal and will do everything to protect him.

I'm all smiles now that Elizabeth will be fired but it may also be a bad thing. She will definitely be back and will not be in favour of Fitz.

It's nice to see Leo again. I'm not sure if he's still dating Abby but he was hilarious in this episode. Olivia and Fitz's trouble is far from over now that the investigation has begun.
