Scandal Season 5 Episode 7 "Even the Devil Deserves a Second Chance"
It's very rare in situations when you see the side chick running the country instead of the president. After this episode, it makes one wonder if Olivia is over her head.
Fitz is saved from impeachment thanks to Olivia, Mellie and Rowan. He publicly apologizes for the scandal and promise to focus his energy to making life easy for the citizens. As they all celebrate the victory, Cyrus takes Fitz to a corner and tells him of Rowan and Tom's release. Olivia pretends to be devastated about the news but Abby figures it out that Olivia is involved.
Jake confronts Olivia about her drastic decision to free Rowan to save Fitz's presidency. Fitz hires him to capture Fitz, dead or alive.
Olivia is called to OPA by a client who wants to expose the person that raped her two years ago. It turns out that the accused is her university professor, a well respected author, Frank Holland, who is about to be given a medal of freedom by the president.
Olivia questions Holland about the accusation. He and his wife admitted they knew their client back when she was accused of plagiarism. A well respected author accused of rape is a challenge for OPA so they approach some of his students who are his victims but didn't come forward because of his reputation.
Elizabeth North, meets with Abby and tells her that she has scheduled an interview with Sally Langston and wants to make a deal to get a job offer from the white house in exchange on not spilling the secrets. Cyrus rather than make this deal, orders David to detain her on the charge of trying to disclose information from the White House.
Elizabeth goes ahead anyway despite the threats but rather than criticize she praises Fitz and his administration. It turns out that Olivia gave her a job as the Chief-of-Staff to the Vice-president. The tension between Elizabeth and David becomes intense as they made out in his office as Susan waits outside with a pack of beer.
Olivia discovers Holland drugs his victim using his wife's prescription and rapes them. When confronting him about this, she realizes that his wife is aware of this yet did nothing. During one of his lectures, she convinced all his victims to make a public statement by attending.
Thoughts
It's official, Fitz is Olivia's bitch and it's so wrong. A grown man who can't make a decision without his side chick's approval doesn't deserve to be president. Slowly Olivia is becoming the villain in this show.
The OPA case was so obviously in reference to the ongoing scandal of Bill Cosby. I admire TV shows that are not only humorous, but focus on real-life issues. I can't wait to see what Rowan's plan are for the White House.
