Scandal Season 4 Episode 14 "The Lawn Chair"

"The Lawn Chair" episode

This week's episode of Scandal reverts back to its old self, working on cases and it's been a while I've enjoyed the show's episode without the love triangle drama or kidnap saga.

One would have thought therapy or even vacation will be the next plan on Olivia's agenda considering what she went through this past few weeks. Not this Olivia, her only way to deal with the ordeal is to bury herself in work, and this week, the Gladiators have a case (Hallelujah to that!).

Jake calls Olivia to check in like a normal boyfriend would, Olivia lies she's at home, meanwhile she's on her way to meet the Metro police department who hired her to fix a situation.

A 17 year-old African-American, Brandon Parker, was gunned down suspected of allegedly shoplifting and carry a knife in an attempt to attack the officer, who claims it was self-defense. Just when they are about to defuse the situation, the boy's father, Clarence, fires his shotgun at the scene and demands to know who shot his son.

Olivia tries to get David to come to the scene he refused and instead sends his assistant. To make matters worse, a community activist, Marcus, hands Clarence a chair, offering him his support as the community cheers on. Olivia puts Huck and Quinn to work- find the video that will prove that the crime was in self defense.

Meanwhile at the White House, Fitz and Cyrus are shopping for the replacement of VP due to incapacitation of Andrew (thanks to Huck), Fitz insists on a VP who won't be a threat to Millie in future when she plans to campaign for President.

Cyrus chooses the governor of New Mexico but that's off the table since someone leaked to the press that she's been vetted, leading to her dirty secrets exposed to the public. Mellie tells Fitz she didn't leak the name and Fitz believed her because he leaked it. Mellie and Fitz settles for Susan Ross, the Virginia senator that Olivia helped get voted into office.

After David's Intervention, Olivia shows Clarence and Marcus the video footage from the crime scene. Clarence checks his son's body and finds a knife but doesn't believe his son was carrying.

Investigation from Huck and Quinn shows that the Officer lied and planted the knife on Brandon, the knife belongs to a guy the officer arrested but was let go. The officer is arrested and charged, giving Clarence closure. Olivia takes Clarence to the White House to meet the President who offers him his condolences.

I enjoyed this episode and I hope it continues to be that way. No love drama or daddy issue (won't mind that). Rowan and Mama Pope weren't in this week's episode. Olivia is obviously not okay but it's interesting to see how it will affect her mental state in the course of the season.
