Previously on The Affair…

I’ve always been a fan of crime and drama so when the telemundo addicts are not around, I use that opportunity to catch up on programs on Crime & Investigation and ID Xtra. One of my favourite is Deadly Affairs; a story about cheating spouses that always ends with someone six feet under. Perhaps that’s why I’m fascinated with ‘The Affair.’

The show explores the extra marital relationship of the main characters and the trouble that comes with it. The story is told through flashbacks from the characters biased point of view. Before Season three begins, let’s refresh our memories from what happened in Season one and two:

How it all began…

Noah Solloway and his wife, Helen along with their four children traveled to New York to stay with his father-in-law’s estate for the summer. Noah teaches for a living, he has only one book published and he’s struggling to write a second book. He also hates the fact that he doesn’t earn enough to support his family and relies on his wealthy in-laws financially. On their way to the estate, they stopped by a diner to eat. There he meets Alison, a young waitress. Alison is married to Cole Lockhart but the death of their child has created a rift in their relationship. Both were immediately attracted to each other and it wasn’t long before they acted on it.

The Dead Body

The suspense started when Detective Jeffries interrogated Noah and Alison on a hit and run murder case. The person murdered turned out to be Cole’s brother, Scott. After series of investigation, Noah became the prime suspect after it was revealed that Scott impregnated his under aged daughter, Whitney and was also caught on tape blackmailing a witness.

The Conclusion

Noah and Alison realized they couldn’t deny their feelings for each other so they took a big step to end their marriage. Noah released his second book which became very successful. He starts living with Alison and their daughter in a stylish apartment he paid for from his book deal. Unfortunately for him, his happiness was short lived when Detective Jeffries came to his house to arrest him for Scott’s murder.

A Second Chance

Though Season One told us all we need to know about Alison and Noah, we also got the chance to learn about Cole and Helen and their struggle after their failed marriage. Cole was dating a girl named Luisa who he ended up marrying in season 2 finale. Helen had an affair with Noah’s best friend Max but didn’t work out.

Flash-forward to after the arrest, all lot was revealed in the season finale. First, it turns out that Cole is the father of Alison’s daughter not Noah, and the most shocking of all, the person who killed Scott was actually Helen and Alison. It was a complicated night so I believe they should both share the blame. Noah was given a choice to either rat out Helen or Alison, rather he decided to plead guilty to protect them.

I’ve followed the characters through their journey of lies, infidelity, murder and betrayal that has left in the middle of the shipping war. Meanwhile there are those who support Noah and Alison to have a happily ever ending while others wish them a miserable lifetime together. Like I said before, I can’t take sides because of the circumstances that triggered the chain of events but it will be interesting to see what this season has in store for them. Until then, check out the trailer for season three.
