Orange is the New Black Season Three Recap
Hello everyone. It's been a busy couple of months with work and exams. Thankfully, one chapter is over and now it's time to move to the next.
Orange is the new black aired on June 12. That moment when you leave what you're doing to binge watch for 13hours straight. Though my exam was close, that didn't stop from binge watching after 365 days of waiting.
There has been different reviews about the season, both good and bad. As much as I love the show, it was a slow season for me though they were memorable moments.
Orange is the new black season three has its hilarious and emotional moments, we were introduced to new characters and also bid farewell to some.
Alex is back in Litchfield(yay!) after breaking her parole, thanks to a certain someone. She's depressed and guilty-ridden she back knowing fully well she's on Kubra's kill list after testifying against him in court.
Piper been a snitch as usual, has been a shoulder for her to cry on, probably because she cares and oh! Let's not forget, guilty for ratting her out. Some feel she did it because of her feelings for Alex. Well maybe part of it and the fact that she doesn't want to be alone. Let's face it, she's a spoiled brat that always gets what she wants since childhood. Larry is gone so all she has left is Alex and after what she did to her back in the first episode of season two, "Karma is a bitch," comes to mind.
Red finally discovers that her restaurant has been shut down for months and unleashes her fury on Piper who according to her wanted to spare her some pain. Red didn't see it that way of course, thankfully for Piper she's not in charge of the kitchen so it's safe to say Piper won't be starved anytime soon.
Alex however, with all the comfort she's getting from Alex is still depressed and paranoid that her ex drug lord boss will send someone kill her. Piper later confessed she's responsible for her been back in prison. Alex's shocking response and calling her a psychopath took me back to the first episode of season two. I can't choose sides because both are shady. That didn't last long because instead of been angry towards it each other, hate sex seems to be a better option to prove their dominance in the relationship.
Nicky and Big Boo are trying to get rid of the drugs they stole from Vee back in season two finale. Vee is dead so technically, the drugs belong to them now. They hid it in the laundry room and Nicky goes there from time to time in pretense of doing electrical work to stash them somewhere else. Meanwhile Angie who works in laundry assumes Nicky has a crush on her due to her regular visits.
Nicky and Big Boo, after convincing Luscheck to sell it for them, goes to check on it only to discover it gone and immediately suspect the meth heads Angie and Leanne. Unknown to Big Boo, Nicky has hidden it and plans to share the profit alone. Unfortunely for Nicky, the meth heads found it and it's now in their possession.
Nicky discovers it and sends Luscheck to recover the drugs. Angie and Leanne, knowing he plans to keep for himself rats him to a CO who reports it to Caputo. Caputo authorizes a search in electrical and finds drugs. Luscheck blames Nicky for it and Caputo immediately orders her transfer to Maximum security prison. Will we see Nicky again? Only time will tell.
Suzanne aka Crazy Eyes writes story she intends to perform in drama class created by a new staff member Rogers. Rogers, rejects her script because it's too indecent. The script however, wins the hearts of the inmates who sees Suzanne as the next El James and also is noticed by a young inmate, Maureen.
Caputo discovers that the prison will shut down in less than few months due to lack of funds. he seeks the help of his old rival, Figueroa and threatens to expose her husband's sexuality after she refused. She gives her a proposal she planned to use before she got fired to approach private companies to invest in the prison.
After a private company, MCC decides to invest in the prison, both the inmates and the officers experience drastic changes in running of the prison- more guards employed into the system, problems regarding prison facilities fixed. However though this will save the prison from closing down, not everyone is welcomed to the idea, especially the COs.
The MCC also introduced a new job opportunity for the inmates with more pay. The inmates were selected randomly and assigned to a workshop making women's underwear. Piper who was among chosen sees this as a business opportunity to be rich. She decides to make underwear from the waste materials and recurit girls to wear them, sneak them out using one of the prison guards, CO Bayley, who then gives them to her brother, Cal to sell.
Alex who's Piper's partner in the panty business is too busy been paranoid that her ex boss, Kubra sent Lolly, a new inmate to kill her. This paranoid drives Piper to a new inmate, Stella Cartlin who keeps flirting with Piper and also one of her recruits.
Alex later discovers that Lolly is mental when she confronts her in the bathroom about her constant stalking. Lolly reveals that she thinks Alex is spy for NSA which made her realize it's all in her head. Piper with her panty business booming, decides to up her game by expanding her network. This upgrade didn't sit well with Alex who's was once in that position knows it won't end well and decides to break ties with Piper both in their business and personal relationship.
In the season finale, Stella the only one she counts on steals from and Piper plants weapons in her bunk as revenge and as result she's transferred to Max. Alex meets face to face with Kubra's guy who's disguised as a CO, her fate for now is unknown.
As of the other inmates, Sophia offers to give Gloria's son a ride to visit her. The constant swearing from Michael led her to believe it was due to Gloria's son influence. Michael's suspension from school for attacking one of his mates made her ban Gloria's son from associating with Michael. This disagreement led to a fight in the bathroom and a bruise on Gloria's face. Sophia becomes a victim of a hate crime when some inmates attack her in her salon. To avoid negative publicity, Caputo forced Sophia into the protection program.
Morello as a result of Nicky's transfer to Max becomes depressed and seeks refuge in men who have fetish for incarcerated women. In the season finale, she ends up marrying one of them.
Daya plans to give her baby to Mendez's mother after Bennett disappears. When she gives birth, she changes her mind and gives to Cesar. He is later arrested for drug trafficking and the children and Daya's baby in Police custody.
Black Cindy converts to a Jew, Brook Soso gets victimized by Leanne in which she attempted suicide as a result of this but is saved by Suzanne, Taystee and Poussey. In the finale, Soso is accepted into the African- American group.
Pennsatucky who takes over Morello's job as the van driver after Rosa's escapes gets raped by one of the prison guards. Big Boo comes up with a plan to teach him a lesson and poisons his drink. Both drag him to the laundry room and attempt to assault him. Pen later changes her mind and fakes been epileptic to be assigned to another job.
The season also gave us back stories of secondary characters like Chang, Big Boo, Flaca, Gloria, Bennett, Caputo, Norma, Leanne and also follow up on main characters like Tiffany aka Pennsatucky and Alex.
The finale also gave a glimpse of the disastrous situations to come. while the inmates enjoy a momentary glimpse of freedom in the lake just outside the prison gates, blissfully unaware of the arrival of two large busloads of prisoners that will swell the prison population significantly.
