Right where we left off, Wren jumped in front of the moving bus to protect the identity of the ten commandment killer. John goes back to hotel Cortez and confronts Liz about the killer who is still grieving over the loss of Tristan.
The confrontation almost got physical till Sally intervenes. John accuses them of protecting the killer all this while. Sally agrees to take him to meet the killer. As they were about leaving, Liz gives John a gun and tells him he's going to need it once he finds what he's looking for.
Sally leads the way and they end of in room 64, his own room. John thinks Sally is playing a sick joke on him but she tell him the answers he's looking for is behind the secret door in the room. John opens it and finds the killer's collection.
Right on the shelf are 10 jars, body parts he keeps as souvenirs. Sally explains the jars has been there since 1926. John didn't believe in the existence of a serial killer who has been around for 90 years. Sally explains that he found a successor to complete the work he started. Sally then drops the bombshell, John is actually the ten commandment killer but doesn't have a memory of the incident until Sally helped him remember. After remembering everything, he breaks down in front of Sally.
He goes to meet his partner at the morgue and confesses that he's the killer they're looking for. He explains that it all started three weeks ago at the Hotel Cortez. His partner thinks he's crazy since the killings started few months ago. John reveals that his first time in the Cortez was five years ago, it was after they closed the case on a man that committed multiple murders and killed himself. He was stressed so he went to have a drink in the bar at the Cortez. There he meets Donovan who was flirting with him at first then later invites him for an after party upstairs.
Donovan crashes the dinner date of Elizabeth and March. March was angry at first for the interruption but becomes fascinated on John thinking about life and death. March dismisses Donovan and Elizabeth to spend more time with John. March introduces himself, and they talked and drank all night. He vents his frustration on always following the rules and people getting away for crimes because of the law.
After he passes out from drinking, March seeks Elizabeth to help make John his successor and shows her the picture of his family. Holden's kidnapping pushes him over the edge and triggers his rage. He starts to frequent the Cortez. The tragedy also caused a rift between John and his wife so he seeks comfort in Sally's arms and March's lessons.
After his latest case was dismissed based on technicality and the culprits were released, he realizes that the law won't bring justice. He goes to see March and tells him he's right. March tells about a guest who is a pedophile after he showed him pictures Evers found in the room. He goes to his apartment and kills him with a hammer. After he realized what has done, he hangs himself in the bathroom. He almost succeeded until March rescues him.
He becomes furious with Sally who was present when it was happening. He tells her she can only have him when he's finished with him. Scared that he could die outside the Cortez, she sends Wren, one of the Elizabeth's children to protect him.
March shows him his collection of his unfinished work and tells him to finish it. March tells him to be the lead detective on the case so he won't get caught.
During the investigation of his first victim, his partner tells him he's worried about him after he discussed with his wife. He tells Sally that he plans to kill his wife and partner first because he suspects they're having an affair. Instead Sally convinces him to target another couple who frequent the hotel.
His partner tries to convince him that he's all in his head but John picks up a knife and stabs him. He goes back to the hotel carrying a package. Iris welcomes him but he tells her not to be formal that he already remembers everything. He goes to the room and drops the souvenir in the Jar and plans to complete March's work.
I was suspecting John back when he was invited to the Devil's night dinner at Halloween. Scarlet is so unlucky to have those two as parent, I'm sure she's better off wherever she is.
I'm still wondering when they're going to address big elephant in the room, the kids infected on a murder spree. Now that the killer mystery is solved, let's see if Ramona and co. will succeed in taking down Elizabeth.
